La Republica Dominicana

Dominicans tend to fall between the extreme poverty of Haiti and the higher standard of living in Puerto Rico. There are many in their middle and upper class which would be similar to our middle class, but there’s also many extremely poor and some extremely rich.

There’s a large divide between the rich and the poor. There’s also a big divide between the tourist places where you might go on vacation, and the rest of the country. It’s entirely possible to go to the DR and only stay in, or near, the resort neighborhood and eat at those restaurants. It’s a very interesting situation.

La Romana Baptist Church

The church has been around for many years, and Pastor Ramón and his wife Ludis have been there for over 30 years. They are welcoming and active in their community.

Ministry Plans

The church has expressed interest in forming a medical team for community outreach. We’ll do outreach in communities near the church. I will also provide medical care for the kids at the Hogar Betesda (Bethesda Home) boys home, a ministry of this local church. They don’t have anyone to provide medical care, other than any free clinics that they can find. Additionally, I plan to teach a health class at the seminary. I’ll help train pastors and future ministry leaders on health principles and first aid. I also look forward to discipling younger girls in the church, just as I have loved doing at my sending church.

Just for fun (and for kids!) here's a four question quiz!Â
